Welcome to the very first SW FanFest! This one has been a long time coming and has been something I’ve wanted to do since the very first year of our SWFF. As many of you already know, 2021 has had its up and downs due to the ever present Corona virus still lingering therefore we’ve decided to make our entire SW FanFest a virtual event instead of a hybrid event. It will be similar to what we did for our SW DocuFest earlier in the year but we would rather have an event that film-makers and audiences can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes rather than risk anyone’s health and safety.
This being said, we still wanted to present everyone with some amazing shorts and features in the major theme of the year which are Fan-Films but also highlight the western and post-apocalyptic film genres as well. Throughout the December 11-12 weekend you will be able to view our “Official Selections” at your own leisure and we hope you do enjoy all the films on display this year.
One of the things I hope everyone understands with Fan-Films (or Fan Made Films) is that the dedicated cast and crew of these films many of the times do not make any money off these films and can’t make any money from these films since they do not own the property or franchise. These films (like all films in general) are labors of love by all involved. For our SW FanFest we are going to strive to highlight genres that don’t get enough attention from other film festivals, hence our focus this year on Fan-Films, Post-Apocalyptic films, and westerns. Next year, our focus will be on different genres.
We hope that you come out and enjoy this small sampling of the enormous culture of films which can be found on You Tube, Vimeo, and other streaming platforms. Also, don’t forget to join us for our Saturday Night Special Online “Best of the Festival” Screening which highlights six films that my crew and myself have deemed “must see”. All this and more at the SW FanFest 2021!
